We’ve started another mountain bike race season. We are excited to watch as our boy gives it everything on the trail. He spends quite a bit of time on his bike. It’d be cool if they had some kind of wheely contest at one of the races. I’m sure he’d be one of the best at that.
The races are always challenging, and the kids push themselves to the limit as they compete. In this first race he had a mechanical issue on the first of 3 laps. He had to stop and find the little wheel in the derailer that helps keep the chain under tension. Amazingly he was able to find the part on the trail, and then get it fixed with the small toolkit he had in his pocket. If he had needed help from anyone there would have been a time penalty. I don’t quite get that, because just having to stop and make a repair is already so much of a penalty.
With the mechanical issue that put him a pretty good distance behind in the race. Rather than get discouraged and give up he pushed on as hard as he could. It was impressive to watch. Hopefully he can have a great race this next time and make up for any lost ground from that set back.
