I got these the other day. It seemed appropriate weather to have a flag flying at half mast. I think the tragedy in France was worth the gesture. As I’ve thought about it a little, I’m not sure how we ever fly the flag all the way to the top, with all the tragedy that is happening around the world on a daily basis. I suppose that isn’t a very optimistic thing to say. I guess I don’t mean to be preaching doom and gloom so much as to say that with all the refugees suffering, and attacks both militarily and random bombings of civilians. Why do we make the gesture for the French tragedy, and not so many others? I’m sure there is probably some formula, or at least some historical precedent. I just wonder if we are becoming desensitized to all the suffering occurring on a regular basis.
