Blossoms
I grabbed a few shots of these blossoms the other day. This is such a wonderful time of year. It has been an interesting spring this year. Tonight it was even pretty cold out.
As I was getting ready for work this morning my littlest guy was talking to me about a coworker. I told him that the person he was asking about was going to retire, which meant that he had enough money so we wasn’t going to have to go to work anymore. He latched right on to that idea and asked when I was going to retire. He said that I have lots of money. Then he determined that he was rich, and that he could give me some money. I told him that wasn’t necessary, but that didn’t slow him down one bit.
He went into his room and got his piggy bank. He went to get five dollars. I was thinking about trying to explain to him that five dollars wouldn’t be enough to get me into retirement. Before I could say anything he was back with a little handful of coins. He had contributed 34 cents towards making it so I could stay home. I tried to tell him to hang onto it in his piggy bank for me, he was determined to give me the money.
In fact he decided he could contribute a little more. He returned to his piggy bank and brought me back another 27 cents. He told me to take it to work and show my boss, and ask him if it was enough for me to not have to go to work anymore. I told him I would, but that I didn’t think it would be enough to get me to retirement. When he wasn’t looking I returned the money to his piggy bank and then went on to work.
The whole thing does get me thinking about how much money is needed to get to retirement. I also started thinking about how I spend my time. We spend our time working like crazy while our children are home and growing. When they grow up and get out of the house, then we get to retirement and have more freedom. I’m going to have to keep thinking about all this. There must be a better way to manage life.
